Growing Great Kids (GGK) Preschool Training: March 31-April 3, 2020

Families Forward Virginia presents Growing Great Kids (GGK) Preschool Training Seminar. Growing Great Kids for Preschoolers (GGK PS) is a strength-based, partnership approach to building nurturing parenting skills while optimizing developmental outcomes for children 3 to 5 years. As home visitors facilitate GGK PS Parenting & Child Development Curriculum modules with families, they build empathic parenting skills for interacting with their preschool-aged children in ways that bolster development and nurture security in their relationships. With the GGK PS Growing Great Families Curriculum modules, parents learn strategies for managing stress, building a secure family base and growing the protective buffers essential for raising mentally and physically healthy children. Participation in a Growing Great Kids for Preschoolers Certification Seminar is required to use the GGK for Preschoolers Curriculum. By participating in this skill driven seminar, home visitors and their supervisors will: • Build 6 Home Visiting competencies • Increase their understanding of the development of the preschool-aged child and their parenting needs • Learn how to motivate parents to practice GGK Daily Do’s: 6 Essential Parenting Skill Sets • Will experience a live demonstration using GGK Curriculum modules and activities with program parents and their children • Strategies for interacting with 3-5-year-old children, aimed at preventing challenging behaviors, while providing consistent, nurturing discipline To be awarded certification, each participant must attend all hours of each training day and fulfill all certification requirements. At least one supervisor from your agency has to have taken GGK PS previously in order for staff to attend. If there are no supervisors from your agency that have completed GGK PS, you will need to send at least one to be certified along with staff. Training will take place on March 31-April 3, 2020 from 8:00am - 5:00pm in the 1st floor conference room in the Virginia Beach Department of Public Health building located at 4452 Corporation Lane, Virginia Beach, VA 23462. Because the seminar is skill driven, training size is limited to 12 participants. There is no cost to attend and training and is offered on a first-come first-served basis. Snacks and drinks are complimentary while lunch is not provided. All hotel costs, travel arrangements, and meals are the responsibility of the local agency.
