Williamsburg Interactions Across Abilities

This two-day training examines the special challenges that families face who have children with or are at risk for disabilities. Learn about different types of special conditions and how to offer informational and emotional support to families whose child has a diagnosis. The training price includes the revised Parents as Teachers' curriculum now titled, Interactions Across Abilities: Supporting Families of Children With Special Needs and the Toolkit. The training and curriculum are designed for the following audiences: family support professionals, care providers, and early interventionists. This training offers: techniques for enhancing observation skills to identify early warning signs or red flags for developmental delays; responsive communication strategies for sharing sensitive information or recommending follow-up services; ways to increase caregivers’ capacity for supporting their child’s development; information on how to individualize learning by adapting toys and activities; strategies for empowering parents to become advocates for themselves and their child; updates on early intervention law and how and when to make a referral; additional resources for professionals and families
