Professional Development - The Key to Quality Services



Supervisors will learn strategies for fostering staff competence through professional development. Tips for tailoring professional development to fit the various learning styles of staff will be explored. Using a mentoring and coaching approach in the supervisory experience will be examined. A simple professional development needs assessment will be provided.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand and utilize the differing roles of coach, mentor and supervisor
  2. Continue to develop knowledge and skills through workshops and courses
  3. Assess personal and staff members' learning styles
  4. Create learning experiences for staff members using their preferred learning style
  5. Foster the development of staff competence and arrange for ongoing professional and career development 
  6. Use a training needs assessment to address the developmental needs of staff members
  7. Discover additional resources to remain current on evidence-based family support practice and clinical issues affecting families
