This classroom-based, interactive training will teach home visitors best practices for working with pregnant and parenting adolescents. They will explore their own values, beliefs and biases about serving pregnant and parenting teens and will identify ways to use this information to improve home visiting services. Participants will learn the differences between teen and adult parenting and learn to identify and respond to mental health issues in teens. The training also covers risk and protective factors, basics of adolescent development and learning styles.
The training will take place in the Hampton Healthy Families offices in Room 1, located at 100 Old Hampton Lane, Hampton, Virginia 23669. Parking is available in the parking deck located at 555 Settlers Landing Road, Hampton, Virginia 23669. Be sure to use the first entrance into the deck, as the second is for reserved parking only. Once arrive in the building, you’ll see a reception desk, where you can get more specific instructions on Room 1’s location.
Please print the associated handouts/materials (listed to the right) and bring them with you on the day of the training. The training takes place from 9 am - 4 pm. Early Impact Virginia has a strict no-show policy in order to continue providing free trainings for home visiting programs in the Commonwealth.
