Richmond: SBIRT for Risky Health Behaviors

MAY 15, 2019
9:00 am EDT

The Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment tool guides the home visitor in assisting clients with both immediate feedback on potentially harmful behavior and a longer-term solution through referral to additional treatment or resources beyond what the home visitor can provide. This training explains the use of the tool and teaches how best to do a brief intervention and how to use screening tools including Virginia’s Behavioral Health Risks Screening Tool for Women of Childbearing Age. Participants will describe the reasons why Home Visitors should screen women for substance use, intimate partner violence, and mental health concerns, practice tips and techniques that can be used when screening as well as learn how to provide a “brief intervention.” *Note: Motivational Interviewing is a pre-requisite for this training. Please print the associated handouts/materials listed to the right, except for the powerpoint handouts (not necessary), and bring them with you on the day of the training. The training takes place from 9 am - 4 pm. Early Impact Virginia has a strict no-show policy in order to continue providing free trainings for home visiting programs in the Commonwealth. If for any reasons you cannot attend this training ahead of the specified date, please cancel your registration or email Vashti Shiwmangal (vashti@earlyimpactva.org) prior to the start time. Thank you!
