COVID-19 + Pregnancy: How to Improve Outcomes in a Global Pandemic

OCT 21, 2021
1:00 pm CDT

According to the CDC, pregnant and recently pregnant people are more likely to get severely ill
with COVID-19 compared with non-pregnant people. Recent research has identified significant
increases in stillbirth and maternal death since the pandemic began.

Count the Kicks is partnering with Amerigroup Iowa for a free webinar to explore the impact of
the COVID-19 pandemic on prenatal care and pregnancy outcomes. We are excited to have an epidemiologist from the CDC join us to discuss the impact of COVID-19 on pregnant people and their babies.

Join us Oct. 21 at 1 p.m. CST for “COVID-19 + Pregnancy: How to Improve Outcomes in a Global Pandemic.”

Our panelists will discuss the impact of the pandemic on prenatal care and explore trends in
birth outcomes for expectant parents with COVID-19. We will also share evidence about the
safety and effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccination during pregnancy and hear from a new mom
about her experiences with pregnancy during the pandemic.
Panelists:
  • Sharon Deans, M.D., Plan Performance Medical Director for Healthy Blue, an Anthem subsidiary
  • Ashley Smoots, MPH, an epidemiologist on the CDC Division of Reproductive Health’s
(DRH) Emergency Preparedness and Response team
  • Jasmine Abraham, a new mom and an Ambassador for Count the Kicks in the state of
Ohio
  • Stephaney Moody, Health Equity Coordinator for Healthy Birth Day, Inc., will moderate the panel during the webinar and will offer specific, tangible ways the Count the Kicks app can help expectant parents during the third trimester of pregnancy.
  • Emily Price, Executive Director for Healthy Birth Day, Inc., will welcome guests and offer new information on how COVID is affecting birth outcomes.
